Woman
Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival 2015 in Tanzania, took part on March 28, 2015 from 2.00PM
to 6PM at Nkrumah Hall, at the University of Dar-es-Salaam. The
festival was organized by La Poetista, a group of poetry and art
lovers, in collaboration with AIESEC University of Dar-es-Salaam
Chapter, an international student organization and the University of
Dar-es-Salaam Gender Centre. Culture and Development East Africa
(CDEA) and the University of Dar-es-Salaam Department of Fine and
Performing Arts (FPA), also provided us with rehearsal spaces.
Different organizations also participated including Legal and Human
Rights Centre (LHRC) and WLAC, providing students with materials and
publications on gender based violence and the kind of help available
for survivors.
This
year a lot of artists screamed, raising their voices amongst the
student community of the University of Dar-es-Salaam, raising
awareness, building the culture of activism, and bringing hope to
survivors in the university community, which also faces its share of
violence against women incidences.
Besides
the day of the event, La Poetista in collaboration with AIESEC
University of Dar-es-Salaam put up a station near the university
cafeteria for three days to talk to students and people passing by
about Woman Scream and violence against women.
We
would like to especially thank the participating artists for sharing
their message and screaming very loudly.

do in order to be part of the solution and not the problem.

FM, EATV-Wanawake Live, Missie Popular, GAM Studios, the Citizen News
Paper, TBC FM,We Write, Bongo 5, and Vijana FM, and everyone that
spread the news about Woman Scream.
We
would also like to thank everyone that showed up, the UDSM students
and staff, GBV stakeholders, and everyone that came to support the
cause and helped us scream.
Last
but not least, we would like to thank Women Poets International (MPI)
for their guidance and support as we were planning the event for
Tanzania. We
