Woman Scream: Art, Poetry, and Social Commitment

 
The Woman Scream International Festival in New Jersey reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting poetry, art, and the defense of women through culture. Under the "Borderless" theme, this edition underscored the importance of uniting voices, cultures, and experiences beyond any geographical limits. This event continues to position itself as a cultural benchmark in New Jersey, fostering creativity, reflection, and the recognition of women's role in society. Woman Scream 2026 is proudly listed by the CIM-OAS and, for the fifth consecutive year, is part of UN Women's Generation Equality projects.

 


A Prominent Cultural Event in Paterson, New Jersey

The evening commenced at 7:00 PM with the participation of the Director of Dominican Culture in New Jersey, actor and theater artist José Bonilla, who delivered an emotional poem dedicated to women. The event was expertly hosted by writer Luis Antonio Rodríguez (Laro), who served as master of ceremonies, guiding each moment of the night. The artistic opening was provided by the Folkloric Dance Troupe, led by Betty Belle Batista, whose performance filled the stage with energy and tradition, marking the beginning of an unforgettable cultural evening.

Contributions and a Message on Migrant Women

Berkis Contreras, the Woman Scream New Jersey Coordinator, officially welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude for the support of the individuals and institutions that made this edition of the festival possible. Special thanks were extended to the Dominican Directorate of Culture Abroad, Betty Belle Batista, Luis Antonio Rodríguez, Ruby Escobar, and Vanessa Hernández. As a guest speaker, Dominican businesswoman Vanessa Hernández shared a compelling message focused on migrant women, highlighting their challenges, strength, and achievements in various social contexts.

 

 

Poetic Readings and Emerging Voices

One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the poetic reading, featuring a diverse group of poets: Isbel González, Larissa Fuentes López, Ruby Escobar, Herta Montero, Jorge Galeano, Carlos Anaya Mantilla, Marcia Gomezcohello, Ransés Díaz Belliard, Jorge Pañaherrera, and Niurka Guimarey. This edition of the festival particularly emphasized the participation of young, emerging poets, who brought fresh perspectives and reinforced the event's commitment to new generations of writers.

The event also featured the talented pianist and singer Miguel Ángel Pérez, who offered a mini-concert of romantic period music. His performance created a special connection with the audience, enriching the artistic experience of the night and providing a beautiful close to the evening.
