What we have experienced these days in California has not just been a series of events, but a true “Woman Scream Route 2026”, bringing together the Central Valley under one unified voice: that of resilience and art without borders. Thanks to the dedication of our coordinator Vielka Solano, we traveled a path filled with strength and purpose, where each stop became a space for free feminist expression.
It all began with powerful energy last Tuesday at our event “The Feminist Voice”, a gathering that exceeded all expectations and gifted us with women’s voices full of strength that still resonate. Professor Murrieta-SaldÃvar and the Spanish Interlatin@s Club of Stanislaus State University played a key role in this success, creating a space of honor for our guests and reaffirming a strong commitment to respect, care, and solidarity toward women.
The journey continued with deeply moving moments. That morning, our poets shared their light with mothers at Franklin Elementary School in Modesto, in a heartfelt exchange we will always treasure. In Patterson, RM Ranch became a space of deep connection, where music and testimonies from our brave Promotoras of Patterson reminded us why we raise our voices. We also visited Modesto High School, working closely with youth groups in poetry workshops, planting seeds of expression in new generations.
Wednesday, March 18, was especially powerful. In the morning, we shared time with the women of the Franklin Healthy Start Family Resource Center, thanks to Dina Brambila, and in the evening, the Poetry Night at Modesto Junior College came alive with rhythm through the participation of Colectivo Son Salkofa and other artists.
The experience continued at Lofi Laboratories, where a multisensory encounter brought together visual art and literature. Surrounded by the work of Lavor, Hank Rubee, and Mike “Skanz” Scanlon, we experienced an exclusive reading of “La oscuridad es amarilla por dentro” (National Poetry Prize Tijuana, 2024) by poet Alejandra Torres GarcÃa, in a night where art, sound, and poetry merged into a unique connection.
None of this would
have been possible without the talent and dedication of the women who
joined us throughout this journey. We honor and thank Alejandra Torres GarcÃa, Liz Mirel Cázares, Carmen Julia HolguÃn Chaparro, Paloma Contreras, Itzel Xochicuicatl (Liliana Itzel Trejo), Diosa Xochiquetzalcóatl (Diosa X), Aideed Medina (7th Fresno Poet Laureate), Elba MartÃnez Bojorquez, Tania Anchondo Maldonado, Linda Scheller, Janette Jameson, Elva Buck Martinez, and Sagrario Silva Vélez.
Each of them, along with the Promotoras of Patterson and the entire
community of supporters, made the voice of California resonate stronger
than ever.
We closed this journey with full hearts, celebrating a Bohemian Night at the home of Vielka Solano, surrounded by laughter, music, and the warmth of a community that understands that, united through art, there are no borders.
