Biel, Switzerland – March 22, 2025 – The city of Biel resonated with the energy of the Woman Scream Festival 2025, a powerful recital bringing together readers, storytellers, musicians, and performers in a passionate call against gender-based violence. Under the coordination of Malie Delay, this event provided a space for expression and awareness, carried by the strength of words and music.
The Aula du CFP-BBZ hosted this impactful gathering, where the audience experienced remarkable performances and shared a moment of solidarity and hope.
For its second edition in Biel, Switzerland, Woman Scream brought together 18 artists. A huge round of applause to everyone for their dedication and talent! The audience was delighted, enthusiastic, dancing, and singing along. Many people went to congratulate the artists at the end of the show.
As the doors opened, attendees had time to visit an exhibition by Christiane Kernen (painting and sculpture), Patrizia Elia (painting), and Yolande Favre (collages). This exhibition aimed to denounce the wounds caused by violence against women and girls.
After the opening speech, author Yolande Favre read her Scream, a particularly powerful text— a scream of revolt against all the violence and devastation we witness daily on television. Her musical accompanist, Yannick Jeanguenin, also "cried out" alongside her words.
Next, singer Rosa Carballo performed two songs about the conditions of women in Argentina and the strength of their hands, accompanied by the Thomas Loisol band. The audience eagerly joined in for the chorus.
Actresses Sophie Studer and Stéphanie Wavre, accompanied by Yannick Jeanguenin and his multi-instrumental performance, followed with a moving dialogue between Lalla and Nadia (a mother and daughter) about child marriage in North Africa. The dialogue was written by a Moroccan student. Julia El Khoukhi, a newcomer to the festival, joined them with a zagharid, her own cry of rebellion.
After a short buffet, the Thomas Loisol Band and its four members (Isabelle Treu, Karim Dubugnon, Raoul Demmer, and Thomas Loisol) delivered a neo-hippie-punk-acoustic concert. Once again, Julia added her zagharid alongside them and the audience, which spontaneously rose to dance during the performance.
For the grand finale, the ThéâtReVif troupe (Adeline Mouget, Antoine Le Roy, François Koenig, Meret Ruch, Roger Schaller, and Sophie Studer) presented playback theater on the theme of marriage. For those unfamiliar with this theatrical form, it was a delightful discovery.
